How to Organize Files in WordPress Media Library Folders?
Organizing file of your WordPress media library allows you to browse them easily. To organizing WordPress media library files there are many plugins. But today we will demonstrate to you the process with the WordPress Media Library Folders plugin.
First, navigate to ‘Plugins > Add New’, install and activate the plugin.
After activating the plugin, you will see a new menu in the menubar ‘Media Library Folder. Click on that menu, the following page will appear on your computer screen. From this page, you can create a new folder and add files to the folder. Also, you can copy, move, rename and delete your files.
To create a new folder click on ‘Add Folder’ and name it.
If you need you can also create subfolders within folders. To create subfolders, simply click on the parent folder to select it, and then click on the ‘Add Folder’ button.
Next, to add files to the created folders, click on the folder then click the ‘Add File’ button. You can upload as many files as you want in the folder.
Now, if you have subconsciously added a wrong image to any folder, you need to move that to the right folder. You can do that by toggling the option to move and then dragging the image to the right folder. You should be careful while moving an image. Because if you moved a wrong image on any posts which link to the previous image URL, it won’t work anymore.
Copying is always the best option than moving in Media Library Folder plugin. To copy an image, set the toggle to ‘Copy’ and then go ahead and drag the image as before.
Though it’s little, image name plays a role in your site SEO. So, if you want to change a file name, you can easily do that with the Media Library Folders plugin. First, click the checkbox below the file you rename. Next, click on the ‘Rename’ button at the top of the screen. After that, type in the filename you want to use.
As you can see below the selected file name has changed.
Lastly, we will talk about deleting, to delete a file simply select the file and click on the delete button. But to delete a folder you need to right-click on the folder, and then you will be asked ‘Delete this folder?’, click on it and the folder will be deleted.
This plugin doesn’t allow you to move or rename the folders. If you want to rename or move any folder, create a new folder with the new name and move the files there and then delete the folder you wanted to rename or move.
We recommend not using any plugin for organizing your media library if you are dealing with a small amount of media. Because installing too many plugins can slow down your site. So, if your media amount is small and not takes you long to find assets why you use an extra plugin, right? But if you have a site where you need to continuously update your media assets then organizing media files is necessary.
